Helen Ford was born and bred in Glasgow, Scotland. From an early age she attended the Sadie Simpson School of Dancing, where she trained in all Theatre Branches, including Highland.Having qualifiedas a teacher, she continued her training with Miss Elizabeth P. Wallace, Miss Jean Ritchie, Agnes Stewart and Jessie Stewart-Haggarty MBE, with Miss Simpson and Miss Wallace being wonderful mentors. It was a privilege to have such knowledgeable and highly respected teachers all of whom became friends in later life.
Helen is a Past President of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing 1991 – 1995, a member of their Executive Council, Chairman of the Stage and Ballet Committee, Chairman of the Majorette Committee and a member of the Association’s Highland Committee. She was their Overseas Administrator for 10 years, developing and promoting all disciplines of dance in the Theatre Branches throughout Canada and America where she was instrumental in the setting up of the Sadie Simpson Highland Scholarship in North America. Helen is also a Fellow and Examiner of the Association.
